September 6th – Adina Laver: “If ‘good grades’ were not the measure of success, what would be?”

With the start of the 2016 – 2017 school year upon us, students, teachers, and parents begin or resume play of this ‘Game of School.’ Whether this is a game you love or one that resembles the Robin Williams  movie Jumanji (the game that trapped the players until they played until the bitter end), today’s podcast suggests that it is nonetheless a game we invented and we must treat it as such. As an educator, I am passionate about learning AND I recognize that school as a learning institution and in its current form is limited in its capacity to fully educate every child to their brilliant potential. For this reason, we must measure how much value we place upon the measures of success in school and ensure that – as Mark Twain says – we do not allow schooling to interfere with education – nor do we allow it to limit our belief in the infinite possibilities of ourselves and our children.
