On today’s episode of Wonder Your Way to Brilliant I explore the struggle that often arises when we find ourselves torn between something we want to do or we feel is good for us and what others want or feel is good for us. In our exploration of SATYA or Truthfulness, we recognize that acknowledging our truth can be difficult especially when it feels like following our path distances us from others we care about. We want to belong and we want to grow, but sometimes these goals come into conflict. What do we do? How do we figure it out? Join me on today’s episode for a powerful exploration of the tension between growth and belonging.

Last May, I was asked to speak to my fellow classmates at our graduation from the New Choices program at Delaware County Community College. The small class of thirteen was predominantly comprised of women who were in a similar spot as I was…married, raised their children, divorced, and now having to return to the workforce. I think I can safely say that we all were in an uncomfortable place on our life’s journey…facing the unknown.
Pondering what I wanted to say to my classmates, I knew I wanted to say something REAL …something that we all could relate to. I didn’t want to overwhelm them with a “go out and conquer the world” speech. I Googled and read through a multitude of motivational sayings, such as, “If you can’t find a door to where you want to go, build the door.” Yes, we may have completed the class, but I don’t think any of us were ready to conquer the world or build a door!
I finally came to one that suited my purpose, and that I found to be both real and encouraging:
“The truth is that our finest moments are most likely to occur when we are feeling deeply
uncomfortable, unhappy, or unfulfilled. For it is only in such moments, propelled by our
discomfort, that we are likely to step out of our ruts and start searching for different ways or
truer answers.”
Adina, your episode of Wonder Your Way to Brilliant!, “When It’s Scary to Speak Our Truth!”
brought this truth back to light for me. It has been almost a year since I started the New Choices program. Louann Campbell, our class leader, must have seen something in me to have asked me to be the one to address our class on graduation day, yet I find myself nearly paralyzed by the words that ring in my head, “I don’t know what to do.”
I have listened to your episode twice today. It is very inspiring! I wrote down the words you said…changing the words playing in my head… and will allow them to penetrate the barrier that has held me captive, my own thoughts. As a friend of mine would say, “Get rid of the stinkin’ thinkin’!”
Thank you,
Laura Dollinger
